{"id":272,"date":"2017-07-18T03:02:40","date_gmt":"2017-07-18T03:02:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parishofstbernadette.wordpress.com\/?page_id=272"},"modified":"2023-12-12T18:06:07","modified_gmt":"2023-12-12T18:06:07","slug":"cwl","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.st-bernadette.ca\/index.php\/cwl\/","title":{"rendered":"CWL"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"296\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.st-bernadette.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/cwl.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3591\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cwlmanitoba.ca\/\">CWL Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our Catholic Women\u2019s League council has been a part of St. Bernadette parish since April 1960, celebrating our 56<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary this year.\u00a0 Since the beginning, our mission remains the same; we are a national organization rooted in gospel values calling the members to holiness through service to the people of God.<\/p>\n<p>The CWL of Canada represents more than 99,000 women, expressing their concerns and acting upon issues of the present time. To a member, the League is a gift of faith, friendship, leadership development, support, and affirmation.\u00a0 Together we share our gifts and make wonderful works happen.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1960, we have had numerous members, and currently, we have an average of 80 members, representing from 1 to 60 years of service.\u00a0\u00a0 Service pins are presented to members for their years of service.\u00a0 One member has been awarded \u201cLife Member\u201d, one received the \u201cBella Guerin\u201d award and two received the \u201cMaple Leaf\u201d award.\u00a0 These special recipients met the criteria required for such an honor.<\/p>\n<p>We hold an executive and a general meeting every month except for July and August. At our general meetings, we collect personal items, underwear, socks, food, etc. and money which we donate to different groups\/organizations for their specific missions. At Christmas, we adopt a family from the local women\u2019s shelter and fulfill the wish list that they have identified.\u00a0 Our Council\u2019s Christmas Dinner in December was held at the Viscount Gort Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Once a year we hold a Citizenship Court reception for new Canadians.\u00a0 Recent contributions to our parish have included items such as trolley carts, a computer program for the office, Father Baron DVD series and Arise Together in Christ books for the children.\u00a0 We organize the annual Parish Bake Sale with the proceeds going to the \u201cMercy Fund\u201d.\u00a0 This year we financially supported \u00a0Northern Missions, D&amp;P, and Caritas.<\/p>\n<p>We have written to our MP\u2019s regarding our position against pornography and physician-assisted suicide, as well as the banning of microbeads in hygiene products.<\/p>\n<p>Members attended the Provincial Day of Celebration, the Pro-Life Brunch, the World Day of Prayer, the Social Justice Conference as well as have participated in Honor Guards at the Mass for the start of the \u201cYear of Mercy\u201d, the Chrism Mass and at funerals for some of our members.<\/p>\n<p>Every year members participate in the St. Boniface Diocesan Convention and the National Convention which will be held in Halifax this year.\u00a0 The 2018 National Convention will be held in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n<p>New members are always welcome.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211; Yvonne Roy,<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CWL Website Our Catholic Women\u2019s League council has been a part of St. Bernadette parish since April 1960, celebrating our 56th anniversary this year.\u00a0 Since the beginning, our mission remains the same; we are a national organization rooted in gospel values calling the members to holiness through service to the people of God.
